Hi, my name is Becca Van Trees and I am senior at George Mason University where I am a social work major with a minor in criminology. I will be interning at Potomac Falls until I graduate in May with my bachelors in social work. As a part of my internship, I will be writing monthly posts about my internship experience. This could range from my interactions with the patients or my experience as intern.

Over the past couple of weeks, I have been getting oriented with the facility. I have been learning about the policies and the role of social services at Potomac Falls. The role of social services is to help with discharge planning for patients when they leave. This could be home health care, hospice, moving to an assisted living facility, or even going to long-term care. I have been learning about the different health care agencies that partner with Potomac Falls.

I have realized that there is a lot I need to learn about insurance. I know there are a lot of different insurances. Medicare, Keiser, and managed care such as Tricare. There are still several aspects of insurance that I still need to learn and I will learn about this while interning.

These posts will give me an opportunity to share my experiences at Potomac Falls. I look forward to writing these monthly posts until May when I will leave the facility. This internship will help me to grow and allow me to use the skills that I have been learning in school.
