Visitation

Potomac Falls Health & Rehab Center is committed to safely reuniting patients, families and friends as we move toward implementing visitation within the center. For many weeks, the Center has offered virtual and outdoor visitation and compassionate care visits in accordance with CMS and Virginia Department of Health guidance. As previously communicated with patients and families, the center has also been working to develop a plan for indoor visitation.

CMS released a memo on September 17, 2020 that provides nursing centers with guidance and parameters by which visitation may take place inside the center. According to the memo, the prevalence of COVID-19 in the center and in the community will affect our ability to expand visitation indoors and sustain this type of visitation moving forward as we continue to focus on keeping the virus out of the center. We have reviewed this latest visitation guidance and will be modifying our reopening as needed.

In keeping with the VDH Nursing Home Guidance for Phased Reopening that was issued on May 18, 2020, we have prioritized resuming communal dining and reopening our therapy gym for the health and well-being of patients while simultaneously focusing on outdoor visitation to minimize movement within the center. Similar to outdoor visitation, we are developing a visitation plan that has been tailored to the center, placing the needs of patients and their safety at the forefront. Weather permitting, we will continue to offer outdoor visitation and we’re looking at ways to extend our ability to do so for as long as possible.

We acknowledge the intrinsic value and social, emotional and physical benefits that visitation with friends and family provide, and we look forward to facilitating visitation in a thoughtful, measured way to ensure everyone’s safety. We encourage everyone to recognize each individual’s responsibility for continuing to follow infection prevention practices when out in the community to control the prevalence of COVID-19 in the community.
